Education was at St.Joseph's college Vom and a bachelor of Law degree at the university of Jos,class of '99.Came of age in the 90's,rejected the system,embraced flowerpower and it's been a weird and enlightening trip ever since. Jinni is a poet, songwriter, guitarist,bassist,producer,engineer and director.He is also the co-founder of the only rock band this side of the globe-"Thunder n' Lightening",currently doing a gig at the Abuja sheraton Hotel and Towers. Jinni has enjoyed travelling to Ghana,Togo, Benin, Cameroon, Chad etc and is feeling a strong nubian vibe,hence his creation of a new style of music named "Sauti".Sauti is Hausa word for music or sound and it is Jinni's pleasure to conjure Hausa folk music into hip-pop for the enjoyment of the 'matasa' (youth). As a romantic, Jinni espouses lovepower and aims to rediscover the lost history and splendor of nubia through the magicpower of Sauti. Why Hausa? Hausa language is such a beautiful, developed and musical tongue, rich with high culture and an elegant people; spoken not only by Nigerians or Africans but enjoyed worldwide. "Ga sauti" is a 'party on' song inviting young people to feel this sauti and come alive,while "Yanga" is praising the beauty of nubian queens and how they give brothers a tough time. Born
Godfrey Selbar on the 31st of March,1975 in the cool highlands of his
hometown Jos, Plateau State (north central Nigeria), Jinni remembers
magical moments like herding cattle and flute music with the Fulani
on the open savannas.Growing up with music as diverse as Dan Maraya
Jos, Fela, Jimi Hendrix,the Beatles, Bob Marley and Hiphop, Jinni became
a 'culture Jammer' and a bohemian in the true sense of it.
